Ninety-nine years ago, when the Masjid Jamek project was made public, funds were raised through public donations and government funds.
The cost of construction was calculated at $32,625. Definitely a handsome sum at that time. The name Jamek is of Arabic origin. It means a place where people congregate for prayers and other religious purposes.
There are three domes that surround the central prayer hall. The highest dome has been measured at 70 ft. Materials for this mosque is red brick and marble.
A visitor can reach Masjid Jamek through Jalan Tun Perak. It isĀ opposite the Masjid Jamek LRT station.
