Cool it at Frim’s waterfall December 27, 2007

There comes a time in everyone’s life when the heart and soul yearn for that special communion with nature. If you are staying in Klang Valley or thereabouts, there should be at least one waterfall nearby.
Let’s not talk about the “watering holes”. At Frim’s forest reserve in Kepong, there is that not-so-secret waterfall of residential proportions. Come weekends, families will zero in on the spot of mountain water cascading down the slippery slopes.
Children, fathers and mothers will deposit their little ones at the water edge to frolick while they hang around and breathe in the fresh air and read newspapers. I like places like that because it serves as a reminder that no matter how much we deny it, we do need the magnificence of nature to remind us all that in the end, we too shall return to earth.
Since it’s almost Christmas, this one’s for you! December 20, 2007

No, this year I am not sending any Christmas cards or wise sayings for the season. Instead, I have attached this picture.
It is a reminder to all who care to know that Christmas is much, much more than just some glitzy Chrismtas trees and well decorated malls in the city.
Christmas should and always be about forgiveness, compassion, sharing and most of all, love. It should remind us that every day of our lives should be lived like it’s Christmas every day. We should be told that we really don’t have to restrict our goodness and thoughtfulness to only one day of the year (Xmas) or maybe two (include Easter).
The man who started Christmas, I believe, has a wider agenda. He said it all in Our Father and was more practical than many of us give him credit for. If you were to attend midnight mass on Dec 24, look deep into your own hearts for that divine light and message that exists in all of us.
Merry Christmas!
Find serenity in Kek Look Tong (Ipoh) December 18, 2007

Kek Look Tong is considered one of the “newest” cave temples in Ipoh. Its present look was constructed in 1984. Perak has about 40 such caves. Some are very old. Some are considered “infants”. Kek Look Tong is one of them.
If you like cave temples, this one will give you enormous pleasure. The interior as well as the exterior have been carefully thought out and constructed.
It exudes a certain tranquillity that’s common among such caves. The roads leading to Kek Look Tong wind through a residential estate but there are plenty of signs to keep you in the right direction. There’s something about mountains and the ambience that prevails in its grounds.
Natural light, camera, but where’s the action? December 16, 2007

I bumped into this camera crew in some corner of the Masjid India area just around Hari Raya. I believe they were from some TV station, trying to put on film a Ramadan scene.
The food vendors must be used to all this attention because they were not really bothered. I suspect the hawkers were more concerned about the camera crew blocking the customers from patronising their stalls.
It’s nice to know that Malaysians on the whole are a “kay poh” lot. We all want to know what people “on the other side of the world” are doing all the time.
They (camera crew) with their big cameras and me with my small compact. No contest, I won! I caught them on camera.

My wife’s cousin lives amid surroundings such as this. His apartment is right smack in the Taman Desa Danau area near the Old Klang Road.
I am glad some modern apartment blocks have such facilities. It shows there are some among us who have not forgotten about nature and its restful attributes.
Who can resist dipping into the resident pool or laze on some chairs under the canopy provided by shady trees, and aided by Father Wind who blows our way now and then.
Take time to study the greenery. You have nothing to lose but your stress.
