Penang Road after dark October 10, 2008

If you are one of those “night birds” who like to come out for a teh tarik and a chat session that doesn’t follow any timetable, then Penang Road is right up your street.
Every night after 8pm, just opposite Hotel Malaysia and outside the old Cold Storage building in Penang road, you will bear witness to a number of mamak stalls selling soup kambing, soup ayam, soup torpedo and roti canai, etc.
It is a great place if you just want to “shoot the breeze”. I used to be a frequent client at these one-star roadside eateries. This is the essence of Malaysia. This phenomenon is unique to Malaysia and is not found anywhere in Europe.
Believe me, you will miss the mamak stalls when you are walking on the pavement somewhere in downtown Budapest. When you think of these stalls and the food choices available, tears will roll down your cheeks!
