Over in the West, people normally take their time during mealtimes. In Malaysia, especially Kuala Lumpur, a majority of people are always in a hurry. They eat and talk at the same time.

Sometimes, they talk on the cellphone, stare at their partners at the same table and eat at the same time. This is what the locals call “three-in-one”.

truly, the Hokkien grandpa says,

CHA PAH TAI ENG, ie

NOTHING TO DO AFTER A PIG OUT

or DONT YOU HAVE ANYTHING ELSE BETTER TO DO?

There is nothing wrong with eating and talking, it is multitasking.

Unless of course you are a true anglophile, and silence must be practised during eating so that you dont glup in any maggots in your food.

The noise level in any oriental coffeshops moves up in proportion to the high level of activity in the premises.

In other words, the louder the better!
