Kampung China, Kuala Terengganu Rivermouth August 20, 2006

This is a view from the only bridge in Kuala Terengganu town. The houses are built on nibong palm trunks, a very hard wood, which is made stronger when soaked in sea water. These houses have all the basic amenities. They also have a very modern nature-powered sewerage system. The landmass you see in the background is an articificial island recently created in 2005 to be made into an esplanade. What is worrying to residents is that the water flow is going to be slowed down by the island and when that happens, with siltation, the area will stink.
