Standing on the first floor of Pasar Kedai Payang in Kuala Terengganu, a visitor gets a sense of an old world charm that has become a rarity in most towns.

The goods on sale in the streets and in the multi-levelled shopping complex are food stuff and handicraft. Many of the items come from across the border. Terengganu is famous for its keropok lekor which is in abundance everywhere.

IN the daytime, this piece of land is rather untidy and is even unhygienic. That’s because the morning market is busy with customers and sellers.

By dusk when the light of day is slowly slipping behind the distant hills, the mobile stalls begin rolling out to their positions. It is downtown PJ, specifically Section 17 where an old cinema once stood. It is no longer there. The hawkers rule the place after dark.

Who are these boys? Well, these are the faces you seldom see without their costumes.

The boys were part of a lion dance troupe that showed up one evening to entertain the Chinese community. Some of them made up the backs and fronts of “lions” as the drums roll, so to speak.

One good thing about travelling in a vehicle with a very wide windscreen is that you can just point your camera and shoot.

The perspective gives you a feeling that you are back in the vehicle travelling somewhere. This sense of imagery is therapeutic for those who have spent one hour too many in front of their office PCs. Much like right now!

I am lucky to be working near a flowers warehouse. Since Christmas is just around the corner,  all these fresh flowers will come in useful. They are very affordable, too.

Think one-third the price at the nearest florist outlet and you will know what I mean. After Christmas, it’s Valentine’s Day all over again. See, what did I tell you about the usefulness of this flower warehouse?
