There are peaceful areas and there are rustic places. Some of these come together in the royal town of Kuala Kangsar in Perak. KK, as it is better known, is one of those towns that has been left relatively untouched throughout the decades.

Some people say the lack of development is detrimental to the progress of a town but I say “nay”. I prefer towns like KK. It has the charm and ambience of an age gone by. I have stayed in big cities, medium sized ones and really small ones.

But the ones that stayed longest in my mind are always the ones that refuse to lose their characters. It could be in the coconut trees, kampung homes or just plain water buffaloes. These towns have character. If you go to a city, they are basically the same. No charm, unless you count shopping malls as being the national heritage.
