Kampung home brings back the memories November 2, 2007

Posted by asianpixmen in Craft, Culture, Malaysia, People, Places.

There was a time when a kampung home like the above was aplenty all over Peninsular Malaysia. These days, their numbers are shrinking. One has to travel far into the outskirts of the towns and cities to catch a glimpse of such homes.

For some of us, these houses with a big space beneath the wooden floor of the kampung home remind us of those bygone days when we used to play with the neighbourhood children. We took everything for granted: the fruit trees, the wild monkeys, the squirrels and the local tropical fruits like rambutans, mangosteen, chiku and papaya, etc.

Progress cannot be stopped. Development marches on relentlessly. But still, memories refuse to fade away because they remind many of us of simpler times, few needs and a general sense of satisfaction with what life has provided.
