All the animals in a circle April 9, 2008

There is the usual Zodiac calender as the westerners understand it and there is the Chinese Zodiac as only that community understands it.

At a small Chinese prayer hall somewhere in Kuala Selangor town, is this cute little open space where all the 12 Chinese Zodiac animals are located. Beside each of the animal is a bell which you can ring.

I don’t know the reason for that but I spied a donation box nearby. I guess that could be that if you ring the bell, you MAY invite some good luck. Most people believe in luck more than they believe in themselves.

Anyway, it is an interesting place. Most children will be fascinated by the little animal figurines. All animals in the Chinese Zodiac have qualities that speak ill of no one. It is an interesting study of what the Chinese perceive themselves to be if they are born in a particular year.

Of course, which animal goes best with another in the circle of animals.
