Most of you know how big Australia is, so it’s only natural that the only country that’s also a continent would have lots of evergreen parks.

Otway park in the State of Victoria is one of the many that the Aussies are very proud of. Of course, you can’t compare the tropical rainforests that are abundant in tropical countries like Malaysia. Ours are dense, thick foliage and almost impenetrable at some places.

The one you see before you is well laid out, with charming like streams and some very tall trees. The temperature is just like Genting Highlands at 10pm. That means pretty cool.

A brisk walk through Otway park should burn off some excess calories. You can reach there by way of the Grean Ocean Road. It’s a scenic drive, guaranteed to make you want to stay in Victoria a bit longer.

Misty afternoon on Bamboo Mountain March 28, 2008

If you have awakened one early morning before the sun peeks over the horizon, you may just experience a fairyland type of mist that embraces the ground and shifts ever so slowly from one corner of your eye to the other.

Over at the peak of Bamboo Mountain, about an hour’s drive from Taipei, is a coffeehouse that is no stranger to the mist that comes and goes the entire day.

At about 2,500 metres above sea level, the temperature hovers around 50 degrees Fahrenheit. When you overlook the land below from the verandah of the double-storey coffeehouse, it gives you a surrealistic impression of what Mother Nature has hidden from a lot of people’s view.

There’s only one thing you can do when you are there, with the mist swirling around you – enjoy!

The garden where all souls come to rest December 16, 2007

My wife’s cousin lives amid surroundings such as this. His apartment is right smack in the Taman Desa Danau area near the Old Klang Road.

I am glad some modern apartment blocks have such facilities. It shows there are some among us who have not forgotten about nature and its restful attributes.

Who can resist dipping into the resident pool or laze on some chairs under the canopy provided by shady trees, and aided by Father Wind who blows our way now and then.

Take time to study the greenery. You have nothing to lose but your stress.

Somewhere in downtown Sungai Besi December 16, 2007

SOMETIMES when one wandars a little further from one’s own backyard, small and yet wonderful surprises come bouncing to greet us.

I was that lucky recipient of such a pleasant experience recently when I visited my uncle who stays in a flat somewhere in the heart of Sungai Besi. He’s in his mid-70s and has been staying with his family and grandchildren in this small flat for many years.

Right in the middle of several blocks of flats is this charming green lung that provides the residents with some respite after a long day at work. I am easy to please. Such scenes make my heart leap with joy. All of us can find nuggets of happiness in the most mundane things.

Cactus, cactus everywhere November 18, 2007

Cactus is preferred by some houseowners as an appropriate indoor plant. There are places in Malaysia and around the world where cacti are grown commercially for domestic purposes as well as for export.

Taiwan has upped the ante as far as the cactus is concerned. There is a place called Nantou in Taiwan that specialises in the growing of flowers and cacti. If you are lucky enough to come across this place, get down from the van, car or bus and walk.

You will be treated to wondrous sights of acres and acres of flowers that will leave you with a lifetime of beautiful memories.
